USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group Deployment in USSOUTHCOM AOR: Combating Transnational Criminal Organizations and Narco-Terrorism

The Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, led by the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), has entered the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility (USSOUTHCOM AOR) to support the President's directive to combat Transnational Criminal Organizations and narco-terrorism. This deployment aims to enhance the U.S. capacity to detect and disrupt illicit activities that threaten the safety and prosperity of the United States and the Western Hemisphere.

With over 4,000 Sailors and numerous tactical aircraft on board, the Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier provides increased power projection capabilities for combatant commanders and civilian leaders. The carrier's advanced features allow it to launch and recover fixed-wing aircraft day and night, supporting various operations at sea.

The carrier strike group will work alongside joint forces in the area, including the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group and marine expeditionary unit, to dismantle criminal networks exploiting shared borders and maritime domains. This deployment reinforces the commitment to protect the security of the Western Hemisphere and the American homeland.

The Carrier strike group includes Carrier Air Wing Eight, Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Bainbridge and USS Mahan, and the air and missile defense command ship USS Winston S. Churchill. The embarked squadrons on Gerald R. Ford consist of various aircraft, including F/A-18E/F Super Hornets, E/A-18G Growlers, and MH-60 Seahawk helicopters.

The destroyers in the group bring anti-air, anti-submarine, and anti-surface capabilities, while the USS Winston S. Churchill leads the strike group's air and ballistic-missile defense. The U.S. Southern Command Area of Responsibility covers 31 countries and 12 dependencies in Latin America, the Caribbean, and adjacent waters.
