Student's Heroic Act: Singing Adele Songs and Leeds United Chants to Rescue Man from River Ouse
A university student in York came to the rescue of a man found in the River Ouse by singing Adele songs and Leeds United chants to keep him calm. Will Tretheway, 19, heard strange noises from the water while on a night out and quickly sprang into action. He managed to locate the man in the water and held onto him until rescue services arrived. Tretheway sang "Someone Like You" by Adele and Leeds United chants to comfort the man and distract him from the situation. The man was eventually rescued by the York Rescue Boat (YRB) and taken to an ambulance due to the cold water shock. YRB has had a busy year with 69 callouts since January, and they advise against individuals attempting water rescues themselves. If in York, call 999 and ask for the fire service for assistance.
