Rockefeller Center Welcomes Iconic Christmas Tree from the Russ Family of East Greenbush

Rockefeller Center is now in full holiday mode with the arrival of this year's iconic Christmas tree. The 75-foot Norway Spruce made its way from just outside of Albany to its new home in midtown Manhattan. The tree, donated by the Russ family of East Greenbush, New York, has been a part of their family property for over 60 years. The tree will be adorned with 50,000 lights and a one-ton star for the upcoming tree-lighting ceremony on December 3, which will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

Judy Russ, the tree donor, submitted the tree for consideration in honor of her late husband Dan, who passed away in 2020. The tree has been a part of the Russ family's property for generations, planted by Dan's great grandparents. The tree's journey to Rockefeller Center was facilitated by Erik Pauze, the head gardener at Rockefeller Center, who has been selecting the tree for over 30 years. The Russ family is excited to share their tree with the world and create new memories with their loved ones.

The tree's arrival at Rockefeller Center was a special moment for Judy Russ and her son Liam, who helped drive a spike into the tree's trunk as part of the annual tradition. The tree's presence at Rockefeller Center serves as a symbol of Christmas spirit and a tribute to Dan Russ and his ancestors. Judy Russ expressed her joy in sharing the tree with the world and spreading love and cheer during the holiday season. The Russ family is proud to see their family tree become America's, if not the world's, Christmas tree.
