Buc-ee’s Expansion: From Texas to Nationwide Growth

Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas-based convenience store and gas station chain, has been expanding its presence into new states this year. The company has been working on an extensive growth plan since 2019, with new locations opening in Mississippi and Virginia over the summer, bringing the total number of stores to 54 across nine states. In October, Buc-ee’s broke ground on new locations in Tennessee, Kansas, and Louisiana, with more locations planned in Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Arizona.
The company is also working on constructing travel centers in at least 10 other locations, including Florida, Colorado, Kentucky, and South Carolina. Some locations have experienced delays due to various issues, such as roadwork hindering construction or pushback from residents over the size and impact of the travel centers. Despite these challenges, Buc-ee’s remains committed to its expansion plans and is looking to grow further in the coming years.
Residents in some communities have expressed concerns about the potential traffic and environmental impacts of new Buc-ee’s locations, leading to pushback and delays in the approval process. However, the company has made concessions in response to local feedback and is working to address these concerns. Buc-ee’s is known for its massive travel centers that offer a wide range of amenities, attracting a loyal following of customers who appreciate the brand and its mascot, Buc-ee the Beaver.
Each new Buc-ee’s location brings at least 200 full-time jobs to the community and takes about 12 to 15 months to build. Despite facing challenges and delays in some areas, Buc-ee’s remains a top-ranked convenience store in the U.S. and continues to expand its footprint across the country. With plans for more than 70 locations in nearly 20 states, Buc-ee’s is poised for continued growth and success in the convenience store industry.
