ICE Operation in Houston Nets Dangerous Criminals, Including Assault on Officer

A Salvadoran illegal immigrant named Walter Leonel Perez Rodriguez assaulted an ICE officer in Houston during an operation, causing severe injuries. The officer suffered burns and a laceration to his face, requiring 13 stitches. Perez Rodriguez, who has a criminal record including sexual assault of a child, has been removed from the U.S. multiple times but re-entered illegally. He is now in ICE custody to ensure the safety of Americans.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized that assaults against ICE officers will be prosecuted under President Trump and Secretary Noem's administration. She condemned the increase in assaults on federal law enforcement officers, highlighting the risks they face while apprehending criminals to protect American families. ICE recently conducted a 10-day operation in Houston, resulting in over 1,500 arrests, including gang members, sexual predators, and a murderer.

ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Field Office Director Bret Bradford announced the successful operation in Houston, despite the challenges posed by dangerous conditions and false information. The arrests of gang members, child predators, and violent criminals aimed to prevent Houston residents from experiencing the trauma of violent crimes. The operation led to the apprehension of documented gang members, aggravated felons, a convicted murderer, and sexual predators, among others.

The October operation in Houston resulted in the arrests of individuals with various criminal offenses, including aggravated assaults, DWIs, drug offenses, and weapons offenses. Many of those arrested had been previously deported from the U.S. at least once, indicating a pattern of illegal re-entry. ICE continues to conduct enforcement operations in the Houston area to ensure the safety of communities and uphold immigration laws.
