In the major categories, artists such as Bad Bunny, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Tyler, the Creator, Lady Gaga, and Leon Thomas received nominations for Album of the Year. Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Doechii, and Bruno Mars were nominated for Record of the Year. Song of the Year nominations include Bad Bunny for "DtMF," Gaga for "Abracadabra," "Luther" for Kendrick, and more. Bad Bunny made history as the first Spanish-speaking artist to be nominated in the three major categories.

While Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande did not receive nominations in the Best Music Film category for their visual albums "Something Beautiful" and "Brighter Days Ahead," respectively, they were recognized in other categories. Ariana was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Defying Gravity," and Miley received a nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album for "Something Beautiful."
