Deputy-Involved Shooting in Hillsborough County: Deputy Gonzalez Rescues Child in Domestic Violence Incident

A deputy-involved shooting took place in Hillsborough County, Florida, involving a suspect identified as Mario Camacho. The incident occurred during a domestic violence call where the suspect was reported to be armed with a knife and choking a 7-year-old child. Deputies responded to the call and found the suspect barricaded in a bedroom with the child. Despite multiple attempts to persuade the suspect to drop the knife, Deputy Gonzalez shot the suspect to rescue the child. The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Deputy Gonzalez, who has been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for nearly six years, is currently on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is ongoing.
