Arizona Man Arrested for Murdering Mother: A Tragic Tale of Mental Illness and Tragedy
A man in Arizona was arrested for the murder of his mother after confessing to strangling her and dismembering her body. Leroy Vallejos, 48, told police that he believed his mother, 69-year-old Ernestina Lucero, was involved in a group that posed a threat to him. The gruesome discovery was made when Albuquerque police found body parts in a freezer at the home.
Vallejos was reported to have used his mother's debit card, sold her car, and then contacted her home health care company to report her missing while still demanding payment for her care. Police became suspicious and conducted a welfare check at the residence, where they discovered evidence that contradicted Vallejos' claims that his mother was out of the country.
Upon further investigation, authorities found human body parts, identified as Lucero by the local coroner, in garbage bags inside a freezer. A bloody saw was also recovered from the scene. Vallejos was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. He is currently being held without bail at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.
