From Sweetener to Cologne: The Story Behind Howl Owl Owl's Debut Single
Ariana Grande's hit album Sweetener from 2018 features a track titled "R.E.M." which caught the attention of Mike Mills, the bassist of the iconic alt-rock band R.E.M. He found it amusing when Grande named her cosmetics and fragrance line after the band. Mills decided to respond by forming a new supergroup called Howl Owl Owl with Darius Rucker and drummer Steve Gorman. Their debut single, "My Cologne," was recently released, with Mills sharing the backstory in a video on Instagram. The catchy chorus of the song revolves around wanting to smell like Ariana Grande and the idea that she might want others to smell like the band members.
