U.S. Marine Arrested for Alleged Kidnapping and Assault of 12-Year-Old Girl

A U.S. Marine on active duty has been apprehended for allegedly traveling from North Carolina to Indiana with the intention of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl from Lake County. William Richard Roy, 24, was arrested in Durham, North Carolina, after FBI officials located him. The Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is listed as his address. Roy is facing federal charges related to the incident. The investigation began when the FBI's Merrillville office received information from the Hammond Police Department about a missing 12-year-old girl believed to be with Roy. The girl's grandmother had reported her missing earlier that day. Roy allegedly flew from North Carolina to Chicago on Oct. 24, then met the child at a park in Hammond the next day. They stayed overnight at a Chicago hotel before taking a Greyhound bus to Durham, where Roy was apprehended, and the girl was safely recovered. The FBI's Indianapolis, Charlotte, and Chicago offices are actively investigating the case, with assistance from the Hammond Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service. Due to the federal nature of the case, Roy's mugshot has not been released to the public. FOX59/CBS4 is working to obtain a photo of Roy.
