New York City Mayoral Race Update: Mamdani Maintains Lead as Cuomo Gains Ground Among Republican Voters

As the mayoral race in New York City intensifies with Election Day approaching, frontrunner Zoran Mamdani energizes his supporters in Hell’s Kitchen, while Andrew Cuomo focuses on engaging seniors in the Bronx with the support of Eric Adams and David Paterson. Curtis Sliwa takes a unique approach by campaigning in the subway system, making the final push before the election. A recent Quinnipiac University poll indicates that Cuomo has more backing from Republican voters than the Republican nominee himself, highlighting the dynamic nature of the race.
The latest Quinnipiac University poll conducted from Oct. 23 to Oct. 27 reveals that Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, maintains a significant lead over independent candidate Andrew Cuomo among likely New York City voters. Mamdani garners 43% support, while Cuomo trails with 33% support, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa secures 14% support. Interestingly, Cuomo edges out Sliwa among Republican voters, with 45% of likely Republican voters supporting Cuomo compared to 44% for Sliwa.
Independent voters are evenly split between Cuomo and Mamdani, each receiving 34% support, while 18% back Sliwa, and 10% remain undecided. Mamdani enjoys strong support from Democratic voters, with 59% pledging their allegiance to him. The poll also assesses the likelihood of supporters changing their minds before Election Day, with a high percentage of Mamdani and Cuomo supporters expressing that it is unlikely they will switch their allegiance.
A separate poll conducted by the Manhattan Institute between Oct. 22-26 shows Mamdani leading Cuomo by 15 percentage points, with Sliwa in third place at 19%, and 8% of voters undecided. The prediction market platform Polymarket suggests that if Mamdani's chances continue to decline, Cuomo could emerge as the projected winner. These developments align with a recent poll indicating a late surge in support for Cuomo, adding an element of unpredictability to the mayoral race.
In the final days leading up to the election, the candidates are intensifying their efforts to secure voter support and sway undecided voters. With the race heating up and voter sentiments evolving, the outcome of the mayoral election remains uncertain, underscoring the importance of each candidate's campaign strategy and engagement with the electorate.
