Indian National Accused of Stabbing Teens on Lufthansa Flight Faces Federal Charges

An individual of Indian nationality has been apprehended and accused of stabbing two teenagers with a metal fork on a Lufthansa flight from Chicago to Germany. Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli, 28, faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to cause bodily harm while onboard an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States. The incident occurred when Usiripalli allegedly stabbed two 17-year-old passengers, causing injuries to one of them. The altercation led to the flight being diverted to Boston Logan International Airport, where Usiripalli was arrested upon arrival.

The Department of Justice reported that Usiripalli attacked the teenagers while they were seated in the same row, with one victim waking up to find him standing over them. When flight crew members intervened, Usiripalli made threatening gestures and assaulted a female passenger. The accused, who was in the United States on a student visa for a master's program in biblical studies, currently lacks legal status in the country. The charge of assault with a dangerous weapon on an aircraft carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, supervised release, and a fine.

Usiripalli is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston for further proceedings. The incident highlights the seriousness of in-flight disturbances and the legal consequences for such actions.
