LAIKA Studios has unveiled a new behind-the-scenes trailer for their upcoming stop-motion animated film, Wildwood. The movie, based on the Wildwood Chronicles book series by Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis, is set to premiere in 2026 after facing delays. Directed by Travis Knight and written by Chris Butler, Wildwood follows Prue McKeel's journey to rescue her kidnapped brother, Mac, in the mysterious Impassable Wilderness outside Portland.
The star-studded cast of Wildwood includes Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Carey Mulligan, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, and Richard E. Grant. Development of the Wildwood adaptation began in 2011, shortly after the release of Meloy's book series, but the project was officially confirmed in 2021. LAIKA Studios is renowned for its visually stunning animated films, with Coraline being their breakout success that earned an Oscar nomination. Director Travis Knight, who also worked on Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings, has expressed the immense challenge and ambition behind Wildwood, calling it one of the studio's most demanding projects to date.
Despite facing setbacks with their previous film, Missing Link, LAIKA remains dedicated to delivering a captivating and visually striking experience with Wildwood.
