Rescued Crocodile Britney Spears on the Road to Recovery at Zoo Miami
A crocodile found in the Florida Keys with a spear lodged in her head and a bullet wound between her eyes is currently being cared for at Zoo Miami. The 8-foot American crocodile, now named Britney Spears by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), was discovered swimming with the spear in her head near Key Largo. Wildlife professionals from Zoo Miami were called to assist in her rescue and treatment. The crocodile underwent surgery to remove the spear from her skull and was found to have additional injuries, including a bullet wound in her body.
Despite the injuries, Britney Spears is recovering well at Zoo Miami. She has been receiving treatment for her wounds, including fluids, antibiotics, and pain medication. The crocodile is currently in a secluded area at the zoo, away from the public, where she is able to walk around and enjoy her shallow pool. Further x-rays are scheduled to assess the extent of her injuries, and ongoing wound care will be provided to aid in her recovery.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is conducting an investigation to determine who may be responsible for the crocodile's injuries. They are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Wildlife Alert Hotline. Killing or harassing American crocodiles is illegal under state and federal law, as the species is federally threatened. The FWC is offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest or citation in this case.
Zoo Miami's ultimate goal is to release Britney Spears back into the wild once she has sufficiently recovered from her injuries. The zoo is committed to providing the necessary care and support to ensure the crocodile's successful rehabilitation.
