Undocumented Immigrant Arrested in Fatal Semi-Truck Collision on U.S. Highway 20 in Indiana

An undocumented immigrant in Indiana was taken into custody following his alleged involvement in a deadly semi-truck collision, as reported by local authorities. The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 20 in Indiana, where the suspect, Broko Stankovic, failed to slow down his semi-truck when traffic halted due to a turning Ram Sprinter. Stankovic attempted a sharp left turn to avoid the situation, leading him to collide with a Subaru Crosstrek in oncoming traffic. The impact caused the semi-truck to jackknife and strike the Ram Sprinter, which was then pushed into a road sign, resulting in the death of the 54-year-old Subaru driver at the scene.

Stankovic was found to be in possession of a suspended Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL) that belonged to a family member, and he did not hold a valid CDL himself. Additionally, his company was not registered with the Department of Transportation. Due to his immigration status, ICE placed a detainer on Stankovic as he was being transported to the Porter County Jail. He is facing charges of felony reckless homicide and felony criminal recklessness resulting in death.
