Texas Secretary of State Identifies Over 2,000 Potential Noncitizen Voters: Ensuring Election Integrity

The Texas Secretary of State recently announced that her office utilized the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ SAVE database to verify the citizenship of individuals on the state's voter registration list. The state identified over 2,000 potential noncitizens who were registered to vote in Texas. Secretary Nelson emphasized that only eligible U.S. citizens should participate in elections and highlighted the importance of maintaining accurate voter rolls through access to this data.
A total of 2,724 potential noncitizens were found to be registered to vote in Texas, and this information was shared with Texas counties for further investigation into the eligibility of these voters. Those individuals identified as potential noncitizens will be notified by the county voter registrar and given 30 days to provide proof of citizenship. Failure to respond will result in the cancellation of their registration. Secretary Nelson stressed the importance of protecting everyone's right to vote and urged counties to conduct thorough investigations to ensure voter eligibility.
As the state prepares for upcoming elections, early voting will take place from Monday, Oct. 20, to Friday, Oct. 31, with Election Day scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4. It is crucial to maintain the integrity of the voting process by verifying the citizenship status of registered voters and ensuring that only eligible individuals participate in elections.
