Tragic Mass Shooting in Mississippi: Four Suspects in Custody, Six Dead, 20 Injured
Four individuals have been taken into custody in connection with a tragic mass shooting in Mississippi that resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to at least 20 others during a high school homecoming weekend event. The suspects, Teviyon Powell, William Bryant, Morgan Lattimore, and Latoya Powell, are facing charges related to the incident, which occurred in downtown Leland following the local high school's homecoming football game.
The shooting, which took place around midnight on Saturday, is believed to have stemmed from a personal dispute, although authorities have not yet confirmed a definitive motive. The violence left four victims dead at the scene, with two others succumbing to their injuries in the hospital. The victims have been identified as Oreshama Johnson, Calvin Plant, Shelbyona Powell, Kaslyn Johnson, Amos Brantley, and JaMichael Jones.
In response to the tragedy, the FBI, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and local law enforcement agencies are conducting an ongoing investigation, with the possibility of additional arrests. In a separate incident in Heidelberg, two individuals, including a pregnant woman, were found dead on a high school campus following a homecoming game. An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm on school grounds. Additionally, a shooting at Alcorn State University resulted in three individuals being shot, with one fatality. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, with no arrests announced as of the latest update.
