Coast Guard and Steamship Authority Conduct Rescue Operation in Falmouth Waters
Rescue operations are currently in progress in Falmouth following a sighting of a person in the water by a passing ferry on Monday afternoon. The crew of the Steamship Authority vessel M/V Island Home observed the individual while en route from Vineyard Haven to Woods Hole at approximately 3:19 p.m. Upon spotting the person, the vessel's crew promptly alerted the United States Coast Guard (USCG), which initiated a response. The M/V Island Home remained in the vicinity to aid in the search efforts until the USCG arrived on the scene. A USCG representative confirmed the receipt of the report and stated that investigations are ongoing. Additionally, a helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod has been deployed to support the search operations. Following the incident, the Steamship Authority vessel safely returned to Woods Hole.
