Countdown to the Nobel Prize in Literature: Celebrating the Legacy of Past Laureates and Anticipating the Next Winner

The prestigious Nobel Prize in literature will be revealed this Thursday, adding another distinguished name to the list of past laureates such as Ernest Hemingway and Toni Morrison. The Nobel committee of the Swedish Academy has awarded the literature prize 117 times to 121 winners. Last year, South Korean author Han Kang received the prize for her impactful body of work that delves into historical traumas and human vulnerability.
This week, the Nobel Prizes in medicine, physics, and chemistry have already been announced, with the literature prize set to be revealed next. The Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced on Friday, with U.S. President Donald Trump unlikely to be a frontrunner despite his recent remarks at the United Nations. The final Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences will be announced on Monday.
The Nobel Prize award ceremonies take place on December 10th, commemorating the death of Alfred Nobel in 1896. Nobel, a Swedish industrialist and the inventor of dynamite, established the prizes. Each Nobel Prize comes with a monetary award of 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately $1.2 million), along with an 18-carat gold medal and a diploma.
