Mariah Carey's Unreleased Grunge Album: Someone's Ugly Daughter

Mariah Carey, known for her exceptional vocal abilities, surprised fans in the 90s by delving into the Grunge genre and creating an album titled Someone’s Ugly Daughter. During a recent appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show, Carey shared that she had recorded the unreleased album herself. She mentioned that the album's title was Someone’s Ugly Daughter and expressed her fondness for the cover art, which she had drawn herself, excluding the roach depicted on it.
Carey explained that her venture into recording the album was a rebellious phase during her work on the Daydream album, which featured hits like "Always Be My Baby" and "Fantasy." Despite enjoying those songs, she felt the need to explore a different sound with her band after hours. Questlove praised the album, calling it her best work, and Fallon played a snippet of the song "Prom Queen" for the audience.
Although Carey expressed regret for not releasing Someone’s Ugly Daughter, citing Sony's control over her decisions at the time, she hinted at the possibility of releasing it under a different label. Fallon suggested a Christmas release, but Carey humorously suggested it would be more fitting for Halloween. She also performed "Play This Song" from her new album, Here for It All, with Anderson .Paak, which was released on September 26th.
