Brown University Selected for 'Compact for Academic Excellence' Initiative by Trump Administration

Brown University has been selected as one of the nine universities invited to participate in the "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education" by the Trump administration. This agreement offers benefits such as federal grants and access to White House events and discussions with officials. The memo outlines various requirements, including tuition freezes, grade inflation limits, and caps on international undergraduate enrollment rates at 15%. Additionally, it calls for the elimination of race and sex considerations in admissions and hiring practices, as well as mandatory SAT or similar test requirements for applicants.
The universities chosen for this initiative are considered potential "good actors" by the White House, with a commitment to higher education quality. Brown University, along with Penn and Dartmouth, are the only Ivy League schools to receive this invitation. The University and the White House have not provided further comments at this time.
