Iconic Tribute: Unveiling the Tina Turner Bronze Statue in Brownsville, Tennessee
A new bronze statue of Tina Turner has been unveiled in Brownsville, Tennessee, commemorating the legendary singer's roots in the area. The statue, standing at 10 feet tall, was created by sculptor Fred Ajanogha and depicts Turner with her signature hairstyle and holding a microphone. The unveiling ceremony took place during the 10th annual Tina Turner Heritage Days, celebrating her life and connection to the local community. The project was made possible by the contributions of over 50 donors, including a significant donation from Ford Motor Company.
Brownsville Mayor Bill Rawls Jr. announced plans for the statue in 2023, emphasizing Turner's impact and inspiration on a global scale. The statue is located near the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center, a museum dedicated to Turner's legacy. Turner, known as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll," passed away in May 2023 at the age of 83. Throughout her career, she achieved immense success with hits like "What's Love Got To Do With It" and "Private Dancer," earning numerous awards and accolades, including 12 Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.
