Arrest Made in Connection to Brutal Bronx Rape: Suspect Apprehended at Subway Station

A man suspected of a brutal rape in the Bronx was apprehended by police after he was caught jumping a turnstile at the Jackson Avenue Subway station in the South Bronx. Zion Exum, a 26-year-old Brooklyn resident, was stopped by officers on Friday night. He is accused of assaulting a 25-year-old woman on East 212th Street in the Williamsbridge area earlier this month. Exum has been charged with first-degree rape and theft of service for evading the fare.
Exum has a history of run-ins with the law, with four prior charges including assault in September 2025, another assault in July 2025, menacing in April 2024, and criminal mischief in January 2021. He was also arrested in Queens on September 20 for an assault that occurred on August 29. Despite being arrested in connection to the August incident, he was released as there was no suspect identified for the Bronx rape at that time.
Following an anonymous tip received by the police in the last three days, Exum was identified as the suspect in the September 13 rape. This led to his arrest at the subway station. The NYPD is actively investigating the case and ensuring that justice is served in this heinous crime.
