Working Girl: The Musical by Cyndi Lauper Set to Debut at La Jolla Playhouse

Cyndi Lauper has been working on the music for a stage adaptation of the 1988 movie Working Girl, and the public will soon have the opportunity to see it. The singer announced on Instagram that Working Girl: The Musical will debut at the La Jolla Playhouse in California on October 28. The show, written by Theresa Rebeck and directed by Christopher Ashley, will run at the Playhouse until December 7. Tickets for the premiere are currently available for purchase.
The original Working Girl movie featured Melanie Griffith as an ambitious secretary striving to succeed in the business world. Sigourney Weaver portrayed her boss, and Harrison Ford played her love interest. Plans to transform the film into a Broadway musical were initially revealed in 2017. While there is no confirmed date for a Broadway production yet, Lauper has mentioned that it is anticipated to open on Broadway around 2026.
Cyndi Lauper has a history of success with Broadway musicals, having won a Tony Award in 2013 for best original score for her work on the adaptation of Kinky Boots.
