Hurricane Gabrielle Approaching the Azores: Latest Updates and Safety Precautions

Hurricane Gabrielle is rapidly approaching the Azores in the Atlantic, with the government upgrading the hurricane watch to a warning. The storm's eye is currently located about 1,360 miles west of the Azores, moving east-northeast at 25 mph with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, making it a Category 3 hurricane. Portugal has issued a hurricane warning for all of the Azores, an autonomous region of the country, as Gabrielle is expected to impact the area on Thursday and Friday.

Gabrielle had initially been moving northwest towards Bermuda but changed course towards the east, passing east of the island on Monday. The storm is now weakening as it moves over the northeastern Atlantic. The swells from Gabrielle are expected to reach the U.S. eastern coast from North Carolina northward and Atlantic Canada, causing life-threatening surf and rip current conditions throughout the week.

This marks the seventh named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, following Erin, which became a Category 5 hurricane with 160-mph winds last month. Stay updated on the latest developments and safety precautions as Hurricane Gabrielle approaches the Azores.
