Earthquake off Kamchatka, Russia: Tsunami Warning Issued for Pacific Region

A significant 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia at 8:58 a.m. HST on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for areas in the Pacific region near the earthquake. At this time, it is uncertain if there is a potential tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi. If a tsunami threat does materialize for Hawaiʻi, the earliest possible time for the hazard to impact the region is estimated to be 2:55 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025.
