Assassination Attempt on President Trump: Sniper Testifies on Strategic Hiding Spot
A sniper from the FBI testified about the strategic hiding spot chosen by a man accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump at his Florida golf course. The sniper was positioned close to the sixth hole at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, well-hidden by vegetation. The sniper explained that the rifle recovered from the scene had an effective range that could easily reach the green where Trump was playing.
The FBI Special Agent detailed that the SKS rifle found at the scene had a range of about 350 meters, making it feasible for a skilled marksman to hit a target on the green. The presence of a scope on the rifle would have further facilitated the accuracy of the shot. The trial of Ryan Routh, the accused, has been ongoing, with prosecutors alleging that he meticulously planned the assassination attempt on Trump.
The trial proceedings have progressed swiftly, with the prosecution expected to conclude their case soon. Routh, who is representing himself, is scheduled to present his defense next week. He intends to call upon a firearms expert and character witnesses, but it remains uncertain if he will testify personally. Testimony from a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office detective revealed that a man resembling Routh had visited Palm Beach International Airport before the alleged assassination attempt, observing Trump's plane take off.
During cross-examination, Routh questioned the detective about the legality of taking pictures of airplanes at the airport. The detective confirmed that it was legal. Additionally, a Secret Service agent recounted the incident at the golf course where Routh aimed his rifle at the agent before fleeing upon being fired upon. Law enforcement was aided by a witness who identified Routh fleeing the scene, leading to his arrest shortly after.
