Utah Man Charged with Aggravated Murder in Killing of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk

The suspect accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been booked on an aggravated murder charge by Utah prosecutors. Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident, was also arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury. Robinson turned himself in to police after the assassination of Kirk during an outdoor appearance at Utah Valley University. He is currently being held without bail.

Utah's Republican Governor Spencer Cox stated that Robinson is not cooperating with investigators, but others around him are providing assistance. Robinson was living with a roommate who was transitioning from male to female, and the roommate has been cooperative with investigators. Authorities are looking into whether this relationship had any influence on the shooter's motive.

Formal criminal charges against Robinson are expected to be filed by Tuesday, and Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray anticipates that they will be consistent with the preliminary charges. Aggravated murder in Utah can carry the death penalty. The Department of Justice is also expected to file federal charges against Robinson.

President Trump, a friend of Kirk, described the activist's death as a dark moment for America. Turning Point USA, the political organization founded by Kirk, announced a memorial service for him at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, with a capacity of over 60,000 people.
