Mariah Carey is set to headline a unique concert in the Amazon Rainforest on September 17. The event, called Amazônia Live – Today and Always, aims to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the rainforest. The concert will take place on the Guamá River in Belém, Brazil, with Carey performing on a floating stage inspired by the region's symbolic plant, the Victoria Amazonica. Local acts from the northern Brazilian state of Pará, including Dona Onete, Joelma, Gaby Amarantos, and Zaynara, will also perform at the event.
The concert is scheduled two months before the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém to emphasize the need to protect the Amazon Rainforest, often referred to as the "lungs of the Earth." Organizers of the event stress the importance of preserving the forest by protecting indigenous peoples, promoting the bioeconomy, restoring degraded lands, and reforesting to reduce carbon emissions globally. The show will be recorded for a TV special and broadcast across Brazil.
In addition to the main concert, a free event will be held on September 20 at the Mangueirão football stadium in Belém. The concert aims to mobilize the people of Pará to take action to preserve the forest and will feature performances by Ivete Sangalo, Viviane Batidão, and the Lambateria Baile Show with Lia Sophia. The concert is organized by Team Rock, known for events like Rock in Rio, and is part of the efforts to raise awareness and encourage action to protect the Amazon Rainforest.
Mariah Carey's performance in the Amazon Rainforest follows her recent appearance at the 2025 MTV VMAs, where she delivered a medley of her greatest hits and received the Video Vanguard Award.
