Ghana Accepts Deportees from the U.S. Amidst Immigration Crackdown: Impact on West African Nationals

Ghana has recently agreed to accept West African nationals deported from the United States, with 14 individuals already arriving in the country. This decision comes amidst the U.S. government's strict immigration policies under President Donald Trump, which aim to deport millions of undocumented immigrants and increase removals to third countries. Rwanda had previously received seven deportees from the U.S. in August following a similar agreement with Washington.
President John Dramani Mahama did not specify a limit on the number of migrants Ghana would accept but highlighted that West Africans do not require visas to travel to Ghana. The first group of deportees, consisting of Nigerians and one Gambian, has already arrived in Ghana, and the government has assisted in their repatriation to their respective home countries.
