Earthquake Alert: Recent Seismic Activity in Southeastern Afghanistan

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 rattled southeastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border late on Sunday, as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake's epicenter was located 36 kilometers north of Bāsawul, Afghanistan, with a depth of 10 kilometers. It occurred at 11:47 p.m. local time on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

This recent earthquake comes after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit Afghanistan on October 7, 2023, accompanied by strong aftershocks. The Taliban government estimated that around 4,000 people lost their lives, while the United Nations provided a lower figure of approximately 1,500 casualties. This event marked the deadliest natural disaster to affect Afghanistan in recent times.

In light of these seismic activities, it is crucial for residents in the affected regions to remain vigilant and prepared for potential aftershocks. It is recommended to follow safety protocols and guidelines provided by local authorities to ensure the well-being of individuals and communities in the aftermath of such natural disasters.
