Tragic Murder-Suicide in Madbury Linked to Alleged Embezzlement at Local Restaurant Chain
A tragic incident occurred in Madbury, where Emily Long took the lives of her husband and two children before ending her own life. Prior to this, her employer had raised concerns about her potential embezzlement of around $660,000 from Wing-Itz, a local chain of chicken wing restaurants. Derek Fisher, the owner of the restaurants, revealed that Long had been involved in the financial aspects of the business since 2018.
The suspected embezzlement was reported to authorities on August 11, a week before the tragic events unfolded. It remains unclear how the allegations of theft may have influenced Long's actions. The New Hampshire Attorney General's office advised against speculating on the motives behind the incident. Long's husband, Ryan Long, had been battling glioblastoma, a severe brain tumor, which added to the family's stress.
Fisher disclosed that Long had access to cash collections from the restaurants but instead diverted the funds for personal use starting in early 2023. Allegedly, she also wrote checks to herself from the company's accounts. The investigation by the Hampton Police Department confirmed ongoing inquiries into Long's activities but did not provide concrete evidence of the stolen amount.
Fisher expressed his shock and regret over the situation, emphasizing the trust he had placed in Long over the years. He only became suspicious of financial irregularities in June when the bank flagged transactions involving Long's personal accounts. Following Long's resignation notification and the revelation of fabricated financial records, Fisher alerted law enforcement agencies about the alleged thefts.
The authorities are currently investigating the murder-suicide case, taking into account the allegations of embezzlement. Ryan Long, a school psychologist in the Oyster River School District, and Emily Long were both alumni of the University of New Hampshire. The tragic events have left a community in mourning and seeking answers to the devastating loss.
