Recall Alert: AquaStar (USA) Corp Recalls Kroger Mercado Cooked Shrimp Due to Cs-137 Contamination

AquaStar (USA) Corp of Seattle, WA is recalling approximately 18,000 two-pound bags of Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp due to potential contamination with cesium-137 (Cs-137), a radioactive substance. Cs-137 can pose health risks, including an increased risk of cancer with long-term exposure. The affected shrimp were sold at various stores in several states between July 24 and August 11, 2025.

The FDA is investigating the potential Cs-137 contamination associated with shrimp processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) in Indonesia. No illnesses related to this issue have been reported, and the FDA confirms that no contaminated products entered U.S. stores.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled shrimp are advised not to consume it and should either dispose of it or return it to the store for a full refund. For any inquiries or concerns, customers can contact AquaStar at 1-800-331-3440, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. PST.

This recall is being carried out in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to ensure the safety of consumers.
