Deputy Accidentally Shoots Homeowner Defending Against Break-In: Incident Update

A man in his 40s was accidentally shot by a deputy while defending his home from a break-in on August 23, 2025, in the 2600 block of Sheringham Road. The victim had shot at four suspects attempting to break into his home, causing them to flee on foot before law enforcement arrived. Upon the deputies' arrival, the victim was trying to unlock the door when a deputy unintentionally discharged his weapon, injuring the victim. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was discharged from the hospital the same day. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, and the involved deputy has been put on temporary, paid administrative leave.
