Florida Governor Appoints Lieutenant Governor to Extradite Harjinder Singh for Fatal Crash on Florida Turnpike

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins to travel to California to extradite Harjinder Singh, the individual responsible for a fatal crash on the Florida Turnpike that resulted in the deaths of three individuals. Singh, an undocumented immigrant, caused the accident by attempting a U-turn in a restricted zone, leading to a collision with a minivan. The tragic incident claimed the lives of three passengers in the minivan. DeSantis expressed his dismay at the situation during a press conference, highlighting Singh's lack of English proficiency and understanding of U.S. road signage, despite holding commercial driver’s licenses in Washington and California.
Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018, is facing three counts of vehicular homicide and is currently detained on an ICE hold in California. The crash, initially lacking eyewitness accounts, was confirmed through video footage from inside the semi-truck, where a 25-year-old passenger was present at the time of the collision. Florida Highway Safety Executive Director Dave Kerner condemned Singh's actions as reckless, emphasizing the profound impact of the tragedy on the victims' friends and family.
Lieutenant Governor Collins is scheduled to take custody of Singh on Thursday morning, marking a significant development in the case.
