Controversy in the Girl Scouts: Troop Leader Dismissed for LGBTQ+ Stance

A New Jersey Girl Scout troop leader was dismissed by the organization for not participating in LGBTQ+ events during Pride Month. Alexandra Bougher, a Moms for Liberty chapter chair in Bergen County, was let go by the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey without a clear explanation. She believes her dismissal was related to a comment she made on social media about not participating in Pride Month events with her troop. Bougher had been a troop leader for seven years and led around 30 girls before being fired.
Bougher expressed her concerns about the Girl Scouts' shift towards left-wing advocacy, including promoting LGBTQ+ events and Black Lives Matter protests. She felt that these activities were not in line with the values of the organization and chose not to participate in them. Despite facing backlash for her views, Bougher remained steadfast in her beliefs but condemned any calls to violence that arose from the controversy.
The incident that led to Bougher's dismissal involved a post she shared online criticizing a local church's display of a Progressive Pride Flag. The post sparked threats of violence against the church, with some comments suggesting extreme measures to deal with the situation. Bougher's stance on the issue remained unchanged, but she distanced herself from any calls for violence.
The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey have not commented on the situation. Bougher's dismissal highlights the challenges of navigating differing viewpoints within organizations and the importance of respectful dialogue when addressing controversial issues.
