Texas Attorney General Seeks Arrest of Beto O'Rourke for Alleged Violation of Court Order

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking to have Democrat Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke arrested for allegedly violating a court order that prohibited him from fundraising for statehouse Democrats who fled Texas to delay the redistricting process for U.S. congressional seats in the state. Paxton has filed a motion for contempt against O’Rourke, claiming that he defied a judge’s order and could face a fine of up to $500 and up to six months in jail. O’Rourke, a former U.S. Congressman who ran for Senate and president in the past, has been using the redistricting issue to energize Democrat supporters and raise funds through his organization, "Powered by People." Despite a temporary restraining order issued against him, O’Rourke continued to solicit donations for the Democrat lawmakers who left Texas to stall the redistricting process. Paxton's office emphasized that O’Rourke's actions are in violation of the court order and could result in legal consequences.
