Severe Flash Flooding Hits Wisconsin and Nebraska: Weekend Weather Recap

Severe flash flooding hit Wisconsin over the weekend, particularly affecting the Milwaukee area. The heavy rain caused significant flooding, with some areas receiving over 10 inches of rain in a short period of time. The Wisconsin State Fair was forced to close due to the dangerous conditions, with officials urging fairgoers to exit safely and follow instructions from staff and police.

The torrential rain led to Milwaukee experiencing its second-wettest day on record, with rainfall totals reaching 6.69 inches by Sunday morning. The Lynyrd Skynyrd concert scheduled for Saturday evening was canceled due to the severe weather and flooding. Emergency responders were busy dealing with numerous reports of flooded roads and homes, with a high number of 911 calls related to the flooding.

First responders closed numerous roads in the region due to the rushing water, making travel extremely dangerous. The situation was so severe that even well-traveled roads were impassable due to flooding. In addition to Wisconsin, the central Plains also experienced severe weather over the weekend, resulting in at least one fatality in Nebraska.

In Nebraska, emergency crews responded to an incident at Two Rivers State Park where a large cottonwood tree fell onto a vehicle, trapping a man and woman inside. Tragically, the woman was declared dead at the scene, while the man sustained life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The rescue operation was complex and challenging due to the size and weight of the tree, but emergency responders worked diligently to free the man.

The coordinated efforts of all agencies involved in the rescue were praised, and condolences were extended to the victim's family. The weekend's severe weather events serve as a reminder of the importance of staying informed about weather forecasts and taking necessary precautions to ensure safety during extreme weather conditions.
