Seattle Mayoral Race Fundraising Update and Voter Turnout Expectations

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell and challenger Katie Wilson are neck and neck in fundraising efforts leading up to the primary election. Harrell has raised around $450,000, primarily through democracy vouchers, while Wilson has raised about $468,000, also mostly from vouchers. However, Harrell is benefiting from independent spending by a political action committee with affluent donors.
The Seattle Times editorial board has provided recommendations for key political positions in King County to help voters make informed decisions for the upcoming election. Despite the efforts to inform voters, a large majority are expected to abstain from participating in the primary election, with an estimated voter turnout of about 35%.
As the primary election approaches, it is crucial for voters to cast their ballots by Tuesday, Aug. 5. Whether mailing in their ballots or using official drop boxes, voters should be aware of the deadline and ensure their voices are heard in selecting the candidates who will govern Seattle and King County.
