OutStation: The Rise of India's Boy Band Sensation

In the '90s, Savan Kotecha faced skepticism about an Indian guy being a heartthrob in the US music industry. Despite being advised to focus on songwriting, Kotecha held onto his dream of creating a boy band. Fast forward to today, Kotecha has formed OutStation, a boy band under his label Visva Records in collaboration with Republic Records and Universal Music India. The band comprises five members aged between 17 and 22 from different parts of India, aiming to embody a truly Indian essence.

OutStation's lineup includes Bhuvan Shetty from Udupi, Karnataka, Hemang Singh from Prayagraj, Mashaal Shaikh from Goa, Kurien Sebastian from Delhi, and Shayan Pattem from Hyderabad. Kotecha's vision for the band is to establish them as a phenomenon in India first, with the hope that their success will attract attention from the West. The band's formation involved a rigorous audition process and a boot camp to assess their chemistry and work ethic.

The band's sound is expected to blend a pan-Indian musical flavor with the catchy pop elements that define boy bands. Shetty, who draws inspiration from artists like 5 Seconds of Summer and Yungblud, hints at the band's musical direction, revealing that they are working on short songs that will collectively form a 40-45 minute set. OutStation aims to bring a regional touch to pop music while staying true to the genre's appeal.
