Kia America Recalls Over 300,000 Vehicles for Loose Trim Parts Near Doors and Windows

Kia America has issued two separate recall notices for over 300,000 vehicles due to loose parts near the doors and windows that could potentially detach and pose a hazard to other drivers. The recalls impact 201,149 Telluride models from 2023 to 2025 and 100,063 K5 models from the same years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighted that detached trim pieces could create road hazards for other vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents.
The Telluride models are at risk of experiencing loosening and detachment of their door belt molding trims, while the K5 models may face similar issues with their C-pillar garnish face plates. Kia North America Safety Office mentioned that due to a supplier quality problem, the face plates could progressively delaminate and become loose, potentially falling off while the vehicle is in motion.
Owners are advised to take their vehicles to a Kia dealership for a free inspection and replacement of the affected trim assemblies. Kia will replace the C-pillar garnish assembly and belt molding trim assemblies with improved parts. The company will also reimburse owners for any repair expenses incurred prior to the recall.
Notification letters for the K5 and Telluride recalls are scheduled to be sent out on Sep. 26. Owners can contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542 and refer to recall number SC346 for the K5 recall and SC347 for the Telluride recall for more information. To check if their vehicle is affected, owners can visit the NHTSA recall website and search by make, model, license plate number, or Vehicle Identification Number.
In conclusion, Kia has issued recalls for over 300,000 vehicles due to loose parts near doors and windows that could detach and pose hazards to other drivers. Owners are encouraged to have their vehicles inspected and repaired at Kia dealerships to ensure safety on the road.
