Octopus Encounter at Texas Aquarium: Boy's Arm Welts in Viral TikTok Video

A young boy had welts on his arm after an octopus grabbed onto him at a Texas aquarium, as shared by his mother in a viral TikTok video. The video showed the marks on the boy's arm, and his mother explained that he had interacted with the octopus before without incident.
During this visit, the octopus clung onto the boy's arm and refused to let go, even when his mother tried to pull him away. The situation escalated when the octopus started to come out of the tank, requiring three aquarium employees to intervene and remove the creature from the boy.
The mother described the octopus as having always been friendly towards her son until this incident, which left bruises on his arm. The San Antonio Aquarium later released a statement clarifying that the octopus was not aggressive and that the staff promptly assisted in ensuring the child's safety.
The aquarium emphasized that the giant Pacific octopus is well-cared-for and does not exhibit harmful behavior towards guests or staff. While octopuses are intelligent and curious creatures, there are inherent risks in animal encounters, and strict protocols are in place to ensure safety for all visitors.
