The McCloskeys gained widespread attention in June 2020 when they were captured on video holding guns as Black Lives Matter protesters entered their private street. Feeling threatened by the approaching crowd, the couple armed themselves to protect their property, resulting in no injuries. Following the incident, their weapons were confiscated, and they faced charges of unlawful use of a weapon, which were later dismissed by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt.
Despite pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges in 2021, the McCloskeys were subsequently pardoned by former Missouri Governor Mike Parson. Recently, a Missouri appeals court confirmed the expungement of their misdemeanor convictions, effectively erasing the incident from their records.
