Shaking Up the Stage: Ed Sheeran's Fans Cause Earthquake at Concert in Norway

Ed Sheeran's fans caused an earthquake during one of his recent concerts in Norway. The seismic activity was detected by specialist equipment near the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. As Ed Sheeran performed his hit song "Shape of You," he encouraged thousands of fans to jump in sync with the beat, resulting in increased energy frequency of around two to three hertz, as noted by scientists at the Norsar foundation. The vibrations from the synchronized movement of the fans were registered as small but clear signals by seismometers.
This is not the first time Ed Sheeran has caused earth tremors at a concert. In a previous event in Seattle, fans were so excited when he brought local rapper Macklemore on stage that they caused a minor earthquake. Similarly, Taylor Swift fans dancing energetically at the same venue also registered seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3-magnitude earthquake. The geology professor, Prof Jackie Caplan-Auerbach, noted that the crowd's response to high-energy songs like "Can't Hold Us" contributed to the shaking.
Ed Sheeran is a highly successful singer and one of the most followed artists globally on streaming platform Spotify. His hit songs like "Shape of You," "Perfect," and "Photograph" have garnered billions of streams. The energetic performances by Ed Sheeran and the enthusiastic response from his fans have led to memorable moments, including causing earthquakes during concerts. The sheer excitement and synchronized movements of the audience have created seismic activity that has been detected by scientific equipment, adding a unique element to Ed Sheeran's live performances.
