Suga's Generous Donation to Severance Hospital: Establishing the 'Min Yoon-gi Treatment Center' for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Suga, a member of the popular group BTS, has generously donated 5 billion won to Severance Hospital to support children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental condition that affects communication and social interaction skills, often leading to repetitive behaviors or intense interests in specific subjects. The hospital will establish the 'Min Yoon-gi Treatment Center' on the first floor of the Jejungwon, with plans to complete the facility by September. The center will focus on using music as a tool to enhance social skills for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, in addition to providing language, psychological, and behavioral therapy services. Clinical research and academic publications related to developmental disabilities will also be a key focus of the center.

Suga's interest in adolescent depression led him to collaborate with Professor Cheon Geun-a from Severance Hospital's Department of Child Psychiatry. Together, they developed the 'MIND' program, aimed at improving social skills for children with autism spectrum disorder through music-based activities. Suga actively engaged with the children involved in the program from March to June, encouraging them to express their emotions and thoughts through music. The positive outcomes of the program included enhanced emotional and verbal expression, as well as improved social skills through collaborative activities.

Professor Cheon emphasized the importance of helping children with autism spectrum disorder integrate into society as healthy individuals. Suga expressed his belief in the power of music as a means of emotional expression and communication with the world, stating his commitment to supporting these children in becoming valued members of society. The generous donation from Suga will have a lasting impact on the lives of individuals with autism spectrum disorder, providing them with valuable resources and support for their long-term well-being.
