Coldplay's EcoRecords: Re-Issuing Albums on Recycled Plastic LPs

Coldplay has announced the re-issue of several albums on LPs made from recycled plastic bottles. The band, led by Chris Martin, is committed to sustainability and is releasing their albums as clear 140g EcoRecords made from recycled plastic bottles. The manufacturing process of these EcoRecords reduces carbon emissions by 85% compared to traditional vinyl production. The albums being re-issued on clear EcoRecords include 'Parachutes', 'A Rush of Blood to the Head', 'X&Y', 'Viva La Vida', 'Mylo Xyloto', 'Ghost Stories', 'A Head Full of Dreams', 'Everyday Life', and 'Music of the Spheres'. These EcoRecords LP re-issues are available for pre-order now.
EcoRecords uses 100% polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) for its LP manufacturing. This lightweight and durable material is designed to reduce shipping emissions and environmental impact at the end of its life cycle. Each 140g LP is made from an average of nine rPET plastic bottles that are cleaned and processed into small pellets before being molded into records. Coldplay has chosen to use strictly rPET materials for their LPs. The band previously released their 2024 record 'Moon Music' on a 100% rPET EcoRecord, making it the world's first album in the 140g EcoRecord rPET LP format.
Coldplay recently performed 'Speed Of Sound' in full for the first time since 2016. The song, from their 2005 album 'X&Y', had not been played live in its entirety before due to the band's struggle to get it right. However, they recently performed it fully in El Paso, marking a significant moment for fans. The band will also be playing a series of stadium shows in August this year, including performances at Hull's Craven Park Stadium and London's Wembley Stadium as part of their 'Music Of The Spheres' tour, which has become the biggest rock tour of all time.
In an exclusive interview last year, Chris Martin discussed Coldplay's 10th album 'Moon Music' and their plans for the future. He confirmed that the band intends to release 12 albums before potentially exploring other projects, such as a musical. Coldplay's commitment to sustainability and their innovative use of recycled materials in their music production showcase their dedication to environmental responsibility and creativity in the music industry.
