Costco Recalls: Safety Concerns Over Contaminated Products in Six States

Costco has issued recalls for potentially contaminated products in six states, including Coca-Cola's Topo Chico Mineral Water and Fresh & Ready Foods' sandwiches. The affected states are Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, California, Nevada, and Washington. The recalls have raised safety concerns among Costco's large U.S. membership base.
The sandwiches were recalled due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause listeriosis. Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal issues. Pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.
The Coca-Cola product was recalled due to potential contamination with pseudomonas, a bacteria that can cause Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection affecting various parts of the body. Individuals with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to this infection. Costco notified members about the recalls on specific dates in June and May.
The affected sandwiches were purchased between April 28 and May 11, 2025, with expiration dates of May 11, 2025. The issue was discovered during a routine FDA inspection, where traces of Listeria monocytogenes were found on equipment. Fresh & Ready Foods stated that no illnesses had been reported in connection with the recall.
The affected Topo Chico Mineral Water products were purchased between May 20 and May 29, 2025. Lot codes can be found on the case and bottle neck. Both Fresh & Ready Foods and Coca-Cola have taken immediate corrective actions to address the contamination issues and ensure food safety and compliance with FDA guidelines.
Consumers are advised to return the affected products for a full refund and avoid consuming them. For inquiries about the recalls, individuals can contact the respective hotlines provided by Coca-Cola and Fresh & Ready Foods. It is essential to prioritize consumer safety and quality when dealing with product recalls to prevent any potential health risks.
