An investigation is underway by California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials following the death of a death row inmate at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano. Mario Renteria, a convicted murderer, allegedly attacked fellow inmate Julian Mendez, leading to a violent altercation that involved multiple inmates. Despite efforts to stop the attack, Mendez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the prison's triage and treatment area.
