Tragic Deaths of Arizona High School Students Spark Community Concern and Investigation

Two high school students, Pandora Kjolsrud and Evan Clark, were tragically found dead in a remote area of Arizona on May 27, making them the second and third teenagers discovered deceased in Tonto National Forest since February. The bodies of Kjolsrud, 18, and Clark, 17, were located with gunshot wounds near Mount Ord in the Tonto National Forest, north of Mesa, Arizona. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating their deaths as homicides.

The two Arcadia High School students were on a camping trip when they were found shot to death. In a separate incident, the remains of Emily Pike, 14, were found on February 14 in Tonto National Park, 19 miles north of Globe, Arizona. Pike, who went missing from a group home in January, was found dismembered over 70 miles away from the group home she disappeared from.
No arrests have been made in connection with Pike's death, and the FBI along with local law enforcement agencies are investigating the case. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has not established any link between the two incidents. Evan Clark's mother, Sandra Malibu Sweeney, shared that her son was a unique and compassionate teenager who had a special way of connecting with people. She mentioned receiving heartfelt letters from him, including one on Mother’s Day that touched her deeply. A community member expressed concern and a desire for answers regarding the deaths of Kjolsrud and Clark, emphasizing the impact on their families and the need for closure.
