Jacob's Pickles Faces Temporary Closure and Health Code Violations on the Upper West Side

A popular dining spot on the Upper West Side, Jacob’s Pickles, faced a sudden closure due to multiple health code violations. The Department of Health shut down the Southern-style restaurant temporarily after finding evidence of rats, roaches, and issues with the sewage disposal system. Additionally, the venue was cited for not adequately protecting food, supplies, or equipment from potential contamination sources.
Located at 509 Amsterdam Ave. between 84th and 85th Streets, Jacob’s Pickles was forced to close its doors on Wednesday. The restaurant assured its patrons that they would address the issues and reopen by Monday. They acknowledged the structural problems that led to maintenance challenges and emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety of guests and staff.
While the restaurant’s website mentioned closure for renovations and a reopening in a few days, it was noted that Jacob’s Pickles had a C rating from the Department of Health since December. The owner, Jacob Hadjigeorgis, had previously announced plans to relocate the restaurant to a new location on Columbus Ave. and open a new bar called Velvet Cowboy.
As the situation unfolds, it remains uncertain if Jacob’s Pickles will proceed with its relocation plans or if any changes will be made to the establishment's future endeavors. The restaurant's priority is to address all health code concerns and ensure full compliance before reopening to the public.
